"F.E.A.R. Fights Free
Vivendi will soon offer F.E.A.R.'s multiplayer modes free of charge.

August 8, 2006 - Big on multiplayer action but otherwise afraid of F.E.A.R.? Quiver no more, would-be frag-master: Vivendi Games, in its sneaky Sierra disguise, today announced it will release all of F.E.A.R.'s multiplayer content as a free download later this month.
Dubbed F.E.A.R. Combat, the package includes the original multiplayer portion of Monolith's acclaimed first-person shooter, plus all official maps and game modes since released. All told, you'll find ten game modes, 19 maps, and 12 fearful weapons for your online pleasure. F.E.A.R. Combat, like its retail counterpart, will support user-created maps and mods, and also features the Punkbuster anti-cheat system.
To play F.E.A.R. Combat once the package is available for download, gamers will need to register their email address at www.joinfear.com in order to obtain an unlock code. Vivendi explained that it is collecting email for user validation, not as a means to spam players -- though users can opt to receive updates from the company.
F.E.A.R. Combat will be available for download on August 17."
