Id Software chief Todd Hollenshead has revealed that work is still progressing on a brand new videogame at the pioneering developer - with John Carmack, id's technical wizard, busy working on a brand new game engine for it.
Hollenshead reveals this week that Carmack's engine technology will be just as cutting-edge as past creations, and that what people will eventually see should make just as dramatic an impression as Doom 3 did. He added that with work still progressing on the engine the time is not yet right to show anything off just yet.
Meanwhile, Castle Wolfenstein remains in development at Raven Software, but won't be ready for release this year. Hollenshead told UK site Eurogamer.net that the title is in development for both the PC and (is leading on) Xbox 360, and that something should be available to see fairly soon.
So, a new Wolfenstein next year seems likely, while we might hope for word on id's new creation sometime in the next 12 months. On the plus side, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars should be with us later this year. More on all this as we get it.
