Attack of the Fanboy - Kyle Hanson - 4 / 5 stars
Gravity Rush 2 is a step up in almost every way from its already enjoyable predecessor. The sense of freedom and adventure is great, thanks to the gravity bending abilities of Kat. Combat is still kind of dull and frustrating, but it's less of the experience this time. The gorgeous art style and design eases this pain though, delivering a great action experience for PS4.
CGMagazine - Elias Blondeau - 7.5 / 10.0
Despite a majority of the original’s flaws carrying over, Gravity Rush 2 is nevertheless a good game with a winning narrative and a beautiful art direction.
Destructoid - Chris Carter - 9.5 / 10.0
Gravity Rush 2 is the kind of game that makes me want to do everything. If there's more DLC beyond the upcoming free Raven campaign, I'll play it. If there's some uncovered secret or time trial I haven't done yet, I'll find it. Now that the series is unchained from the ill-fated Vita, I hope it gets the recognition it deserved the first time around.
Digitally Downloaded - Matt Sainsbury - 4.5 / 5 stars
Even if you weren’t able to get into the first, give this one a go. The story’s self-contained enough that you’ll still be able to follow along, and in the effort to make the game more accessible to a wider audience, the overall experience is also more refined and there’s clearly a meatier budget backing it.
EGM - Mollie L Patterson - 9 / 10.0
While the original Gravity Rush pushed the Vita to its limited, Gravity Rush 2 is unleashed upon the far more powerful PlayStation 4, giving us a game that’s as big in scope and substance as the concept designs its world and characters were born from. Among Sony’s efforts to give their console a wide array of more niche experiences, this gravity-controlling Kat is Queen.
Eurogamer - Christian Donlan - Recommended
Sony's superhero series has lost none of its thrills - or its wayward nature - in the shift to PS4.
Game Informer - Suriel Vazquez - 7.5 / 10.0
Wandering around Gravity Rush 2’s enormous cities is a lot of fun, but the mission design feels limiting and dated
GameSpot - Peter Brown - 9 / 10
Gravity Rush 2 is a jam-packed sequel that fulfills its predecessor’s untapped potential.
GamesRadar+ - David Roberts - 3 / 5 stars
When Gravity Rush 2 sticks to its strengths, it soars; it’s a shame that its stale mission design and clumsy controls keep it from getting too high off the ground.
God is a Geek - Chris White - 8.5 / 10.0
It’s great playing with gravity, especially in such a stylistically designed world, and there’s so much more to do this time around.
Hardcore Gamer - Jordan Helm - 3.5 / 5.0
“More of the same” could very well be the simpler way to sum up what players should expect coming into Gravity Rush 2.
Kotaku - Kirk Hamilton - No Verdict
I can’t summon the necessary bile to truly dislike Gravity Rush 2, nor can I summon the necessary warmth to love it. In the aftermath of its grand finale I was exhausted in every way, happy to have gone on such an epic journey and just as happy that it was finally over.
Metro GameCentral - GameCentral - 8 / 10
Just as charming as the original, but the improved combat and clever new gravity abilities make for a notably better game.
PlayStation Universe - Neil Bolt - 7.5 / 10.0
Gravity Rush 2 is a bigger, more varied sequel that still doesn’t feel like it takes the leap it could have. The gravity-shifting gimmick is still a big draw, as is the delightful art style, protagonist Kat, and the clever world design, but the there’s a nagging feeling it could have been even better. It’s still a very good game though, and it certainly offers up something a little different in terms of a console exclusive.
Polygon - Whitney Reynolds - 7.5 / 10.0
Gravity Rush 2 manages to land on its feet
Push Square - Sammy Barker - 7 / 10
Even though the core of Gravity Rush 2 remains largely unchanged, you'll be hard pushed to find a fresher open world title in a sea of Grand Theft Auto and Assassin's Creed clones. Kat's traversal mechanic is still among the most satisfying that the sandbox genre has to offer, and an endearing cast of characters means that you'll actively want to spend time in their world. The combat and mission structure may still be this series' biggest shortcoming, but colourful scenarios mean that you'll stick around long enough to see the sizeable story and its many side-quests through. So, while not everyone will be dazed by what this release has to offer, the sequel should at the very least ensure that existing fans continue singing Kat's chorus.
Stevivor - Steve Wright - 7.5 / 10.0
There’s a lot of good within Gravity Rush 2, but you’ll have to wade through the muck to get to it. A meandering story, repetitive open world and menial fetch quests steer players away from the things that makes the franchise great: goofing around and never knowing which way is up. Franchise fans will get a kick out of the continuation of Kat’s story – if they understand it – but those with a love of action or experiences like Jet Set Radio will also enjoy this different take on a beat ‘em up.
The Jimquisition - Jim Sterling - 7.5 / 10.0
Even if it wasn’t a good game at its core – which it is – it’d at least get some credit for the soundtrack. I realize this is an odd note to end a review on, but I couldn’t find a natural fit for it in the rest of the text and just had to make a note of how great these bloody tunes are!
TheSixthAxis - Miguel Moran - 9 / 10
Gravity Rush 2 is everything I wanted out of a sequel. It’s bigger, better, it’s drop-dead gorgeous and it never stagnates. You’re always given something new to play wit, whether it’s a new power, a new city, a new gameplay element. Every time I found myself settling into things, the game added one more thing onto my already packed plate, and I always welcomed it. The beautiful world, the wonderful character and the constantly evolving gameplay had me glued to my seat for hours, and for as much as I came to love the first Gravity Rush, it never had me feeling as engaged as the sequel has managed to.
USgamer - Jaz Rignall - 4.5 / 5 stars
Gravity Rush 2 is a real treat for the eyes, ears, and reflexes. Its cinematic looks and score are wonderful, and its storyline is enthralling and thoroughly compelling. All combine brilliantly with the addictive and entertaining mission-based action to create a terrific game that's an absolute joy to play.
