Dark Souls Remastered speaks for itself just in terms of the raw mysteries it offers beyond its new coat of paint. The feeling of zoning into Firelink Shrine is just as special the 100th time as it is the first, and the open-ended nature of the world is just as fresh. Sometimes needlessly so, From Software has packed so much into Dark Souls that I'm finding new items or experimenting with strategies I've never seen before -- a testament to the longevity of this particular entry, and a more than justified remaster.
Fextralife - Fexelea - 9 / 10
A wonderful trip down memory lane, in 4k and 60FPS. Engaging combat, thrilling multiplayer and intriguing lore make Dark Souls Remastered a worthy purchase for veterans looking to polish their backstabbing skills; and a mandatory buy for those who never got around to playing the original 2011 release.
Gadgets 360 - Rishi Alwani - 8 / 10
Dark Souls: Remastered is not the definitive version of the game, but it's close enough.
Game Informer - Daniel Tack - 8.8 / 10.0
A rock-solid framerate makes this the definitive choice for playing Dark Souls on console today
GameMAG - ACE - Russian - 9 / 10
Dark Souls Remastered is a genre's classic at its best and the real "Must Buy" for all fans of the series. The same masterpiece, but more beautiful.
GameSpew - Richard Seagrave - 80%
It's simply the best version of a great game, and even if the changes are marginal, that still stands.
GamingBolt - Pramath - 9 / 10.0
Nearly perfect, and one of the greatest games ever made, now you can prepare to die on a modern system. Missed opportunities and all, I have to argue that in the end, that's more than enough.
GBAtemp - Tom Bond - 6.5 / 10.0
Overall, I think QLOC dropped the ball here. I love Dark Souls, and Dark Souls 1 will always be my favorite of the all the games in the series, but there was simply no love put into this remaster. However, if you've never played the game, or if you've only ever played the console versions, then I would highly recommend picking up Dark Souls Remastered Edition, as it fixes a lot of issues that were present and unfix-able in the original console version of the game and still plays just as well now as it did in the past. But if you own the original Dark Souls 1 for PC, and you have no desire to PvP, don't even bother buying the remaster. Even with the $20 discount, it's not remotely worth the price tag when you consider you already get all these improvements (even if slightly buggy) for free.
IGN - Filip Miucin - 9 / 10.0
Dark Souls Remastered does a fair job of bringing the brutal but fair essence of the original Dark Souls up to the standards of current-generation consoles, including running an almost locked 60 frames per second and the option to play at 4K resolution. A few muddy textures and some slowdown in the most intense and fiery moments are noticeable, but still a vast improvement. Now that Dark Souls Remastered exists, there's no reason to play any other version, whether this is your first run through or your 100th.
PlayStation Universe - John-Paul Jones - 9 / 10.0
Though the remastering effort is perhaps not as extensive as some might like, Dark Souls Remastered is without a doubt the best way to play one of the finest action RPGs ever and is nothing short of essential for newbies and stalwart Dark Souls fans alike.
Push Square - Glen Fox - 9 / 10
Dark Souls Remastered is an excellent remaster of a standout entry in the Souls franchise. Those who played the original will feel right at home, and will really appreciate the visual and technical improvements – particularly to Blight Town, which now runs at a butter smooth 60 frames-per-second. However, those that weren't there at the beginning may not appreciate the inferior visuals and general jankiness that later entries have all but ironed out.
Spaziogames - Domenico Musicò - Italian - 8.5 / 10.0
Dark Souls Remastered is the best version of a wonderful classic game, with 60 fps rock solid, a great netcode and a real high definition. Too bad for some low quality textures and the oversaturated colors that create a bad coesion between characters and locations.
The Digital Fix - Jason Coles - 8 / 10.0
Dark Souls Remastered is a solid reminder of the incredible strength of the original entry in the series. There are certainly some comforts lost by going back the start but the game is still incredible. Whether you have never played it before or you miss the good old days, this is a great remaster.
TheSixthAxis - Dave Irwin - No Verdict
Beneath the surface there have been many improvements, but it's important to note that these are improvements to what was already a great game.
TrustedReviews - Andi Hamilton - 4 / 5 stars
If you've played Dark Souls before then there isn't really anything in this version of the game that makes for a compelling reason to part with your cash. The term ‘Remastered' implies that a great amount of work has gone into this release, and although it's a definite improvement – especially with regards to the frame rate – it isn't extraordinary.
VGN - Tommaso Stio - Italian - 9 / 10.0
Dark Souls Remastered keeps the original Dark Souls experience, improving it thanks to a Full-HD graphics (up to 4K if played on PS4 Pro or Xbox One X) along with a smooth and funnier gameplay, possible thanks to the new frame-rate, now locked on 60fps in every moment of the adventure, including Blighttown.
VGProfessional - Nazih Fares - 9 / 10.0
Dark Souls: Remastered is a reminder of how much the trilogy has grown over the course of 7 years. This version is a massive enhancement in terms of framerate, resolution, multiplayer, technical assets, and still as demanding as it was in 2011.
Wccftech - Dave Aubrey - 8.8 / 10.0
Jumping into Dark Souls Remastered again isn't quite the same as your first time through but it's still a magical journey. And if you've never played Dark Souls before? This is is definitely the best way to experience the game that kickstarted a genre of its own. Dark Souls Remastered should be an essential for action RPG fans and those wanting to put their skills to the test.
