Hey guys, this video was requested by Weldon to give a little extra hype/motivation to the players right before their final match vs the players. Decided to just make it public now since the finals are over
Hey guys, here's the story!
Since working with Regi and the squad last split, it became apparent that the "playoff boost" that you see is really just Regi bringing his culture, his approach to competition into the training environment.
One of my missions this split was to codify that culture as an approach, a way of training and competing that passed on within TSM. Culture can work as a way of breeding mental toughness in new recruits, and helps teams carry on strong winning traditions from generation to generation. It's also a goal to help extend that into every TSM squad, so that when we as fans watch TSM compete in other sports, it feels like TSM in the way they train, the way they fight, the way they trash talk, and most importantly, in the way they win.
Fast forward to this week. We lost a sense of purpose after beating CLG. It was everything we were aiming for, and I make sure to keep our eyes on the step in front of us. So we went into Monday needing to build up our hype for the finals. But C9 had a STRONG sense of purpose for the week. They finally made the final after a drought, and they were looking to prove their hard work over the last 4-6 weeks wasn't for naught.
I finally settled on 2 principles for TSM's culture.
The big boys club, &
hard work.
You may have noticed that at TSM you can't go around expecting to not be called out. That means if you play for TSM you have to be able to take it. Take criticism, and take failure, and get better from it. It also helps if you can dish it out, or at least if you don't mind working with your teammates to help them improve in some way.
Secondly, TSM works hard. There's historically been a lot of roster changes on TSM. Not just changes, but actual retirements. From TSM to out. And that's a sign of people giving their all, completely, and being totally drained at the end. That's one of the dichotomy's of high performance. The harder you push, the better you become, and the more of yourself you have to pour into your craft.
Going into Saturday, I started trying to find our hype. And our story. And I fell upon this song.
Immediately I tweeted out that we needed a montage of the story of this song, as told by TSM's history since losing at MSG. Through the hard work, and the trials, and culminating in this moment, this weekend, when we FINALLY had a chance to bring the trophy home where it belongs.
I got some great montages from twitter. And of course I reached out to Nicetryian just in case he had like 12 hours of genius in him.
Low and behold he did, and I was able to show this to the team in our pre-game speech, as we walked out on stage to fulfill our destiny.
Thanks Nicetryian, and thank you Kevin, Dennis, Søren, Peter, and Vincent for bringing it home for us and for proving that C9 couldn't catch up to twelve weeks of all-out effort just by "finding their groove" at the end!
Also please understand that NiceTryIan made this in like less than 10 hours probably staying up all night. So no need to criticize the production quality IMHO...
