im Burton-esque charm and the fine Lazarus job done on the visuals can only go so far. In the end, these old bones just creak too much.
Critical Hit - Brad Lang - 7 / 10
MediEvil is a loveable, charming romp through a classic action game that unfortunately suffers because of overly stiff controls and combat that often feels imprecise and impractical
Daily Star - Philip Hayton - 5 / 5 stars
A gorgeous display of creative affection for a series limited by its original console confinement.
Destructoid - Chris Carter - 7.5 / 10
A new coat of paint can't inherently fix all of the issues with the original, but anyone with an open mind for kooky mascot platformer action will be pleasantly surprised with MediEvil.
Digitally Downloaded - Matt Sainsbury - 4 / 5 stars
MediEvil is a rare bit of whimsy from modern Sony, and so while it plays a little bit too much like an artifact of yesteryear, it still got me smiling.
Easy Allies - Bradley Ellis - 7 / 10
MediEvil is a solid remake that wonderfully updates the visuals, music, and controls while remaining faithful to the PS1 original. *Review Copy Provided by PlayStation

MediEvil resurrects in good shape from the grave for the fans of the original. But new players may want to sharpen their swords and rise their shields for this look into the past of the PlayStation.
Explosion Network - Dylan Blight - 8.5 / 10
Slaying monsters, fighting huge bosses, collecting the secret chalice in each level and making my way to Zarok. I happily did all of this and got the games Platinum in one sitting because MediEvil is as much fun today, as it was when I was a kid.
Fun Factor - Miguel Teixeira - Portuguese - 7 / 10
MediEvil is a loyal remake to the 1998's classic, and with that fidelity comes several issues from the PS1 era, like the aged camera and platforming. Yet, there's at least 8 hours of fun to be had with its simple combat and charming atmosphere. Which makes it a must buy for the fans of the original work.
Game Rant - Dalton Cooper - 4 / 5 stars
The MediEvil PS4 remake is a faithful recreation of the original PS1 game that makes significant gameplay and visual improvements.
GameByte - Mel Ramsay - Unscored
The team behind the game have clearly put a lot of love into this remake.
GameSpew - Becca Smith - 8 / 10
Sir Daniel Fortesque looks great after so many years; for players looking forward to jumping back into those bones, they surely won’t be disappointed.
Gameblog - Camille Allard - French - 8 / 10
This remake of MediEvil is of high quality, both in terms of graphics and sound. The work on the music is excellent and it is a pleasure too travel again through Gallowmere landscapes with Sir Daniel Fortesque.
GamesRadar+ - Connor Sheridan - 3 / 5 stars
This remake of MediEvil isn't all that fun to play in 2019, but it's still too much of a Halloween treat to dislike.
GamingTrend - David Flynn - 70 / 100
MediEvil is, for better and worse, an original PlayStation game with a new coat of paint. It's a fun romp through imaginative levels with classical gameplay styles, and charmed my pants off with its humor while I struggled with the platforming and fixed camera angles.
God is a Geek - Mick Fraser - 7.5 / 10
MediEvil is a hallowed classic, undeniably, and it's presented here with a shiny new look and comfortably familiar feel, made with enough love and attention to resurrect its appeal for existing fans.
Hardcore Gamer - Chris Shive - 3.5 / 5
MediEvil is a resurrected game from the past millennium, and like Sir Daniel, some of the legends steeped in nostalgia may have depicted MediEvil as something greater than it is.
Hobby Consolas - Álvaro Alonso - Spanish - 75 / 100
MediEvil for the PS4 stays true to the original, for better or worse. It has a charm that no game can replicate nowadays, but the gameplay has become stale. Nevertheless, if you have fond memories of the original game, you'll surely feel like a kid being in Sir Daniel bones again.
IGN - Travis Northup - 6.5 / 10
MediEvil successfully brings Daniel Fortesque's tale back from the dead yet again, but not nearly enough was done to modernize the mechanics of this remake.
IGN Italy - Italian - 7.9 / 10
A remake of the original MediEvil with something more. Perfect for the fans, good enough for the newcomers.
IGN Spain - David Soriano - Spanish - 6.8 / 10
While it is true to bring us back the original experience with a more modern control, Other Ocean should have modernized many other elements of MediEvil in this remake to camouflage that Daniel Fortesque's adventure has not aged well.
Developer Other Ocean Emeryville captures the heart of the original classic with re-recorded orchestral music that swells dramatically alongside the sounds of crows and thunder cracking under a gloomy night sky. The graveyard, castles, gargoyles and even your one-eyed protagonist, Sir Daniel Fortesque, all look fantastic.
PSX Brasil - Ivan Nikolai Barkow Castilho - Portuguese - 75 / 100
MediEvil is a good way to remember the PlayStation classic. The game is basically the same, with a great new paint layer, freer camera control and a few extras. However, besides being relatively short, MediEvil has a considerably high number of collision bugs and the new camera is not very good in many moments.
PlayStation Universe - Laddie Simco - 9.5 / 10
MediEvil finally makes the transition from PS1 to PS4 in a spectacular new remake that fans have been clamoring for. The Tim Burton-esque beauty and clever gameplay has held up incredibly well for a twenty-year-old game but some precarious camera angles and clumsy combat keep the game from perfection.
PowerUp! - Leo Stevenson - 4.8 / 10
Fans will get a kick out of seeing the update but everyone else would be better off giving this one a miss altogether.
Push Square - Stephen Tailby - 6 / 10
If you've any nostalgia for this retro Sony title, or are looking for something spooky to play this Halloween, MediEvil has never been better -- just be wary of the skeletons in its closet.
Screen Rant - Scott Baird - 2 / 5 stars
MediEvil is a remake that sticks a little too close to the original.
Stevivor - Matt Gosper - 6.5 / 10
For those entering in here for the memories of a beloved game, I don’t want to knock the experience for you. This is the game you love! But unlike aforementioned remakes, nostalgia seems like a necessity to enjoy MediEvil rather than just being a bonus. Let all brave knights beware.
The Games Machine - Daniele Cucchiarelli - Italian - 7 / 10
After over 20 years Sir Daniel Fortesque rise again from his grave to remember us how hard an hero's after-life could be.
TheSixthAxis - Jim Hargreaves - 7 / 10
MediEvil resurrects one of our all-time favourite PlayStation mascots for a new generation. This remake does exactly what it promises, revamping dated visuals while staying faithful to the 1998 original, even if that means digging up certain design choices that have remained buried with Sir Dan all these years.

As someone who was equally enthralled and terrified by the original duo of games, this is an unfortunate dissapointment.
Twinfinite - Ed McGlone - 4 / 5
All in all MediEvil PS4 is a solid, well-made remake that is a Halloween treat for longtime fans thanks to its remarkably improved sounds and visuals.
Video Chums - A.J. Maciejewski - 6.3 / 10
With so many retro remakes that feel like fresh experiences in this day and age, it's disappointing how dated MediEvil is.
VideoGamer - Richard Walker - 7 / 10
An accomplished, excellent remake hampered only by some dated game design, MediEvil is a marvellously macabre medley of mayhem and mirth.
Wccftech - Kai Powell - 8.2 / 10
MediEvil shows that it's possible to take a classic and completely remake the look from the ground up but still make it feel as it once did two decades ago.
We Got This Covered - Josh Heath - 2 / 5 stars
This remake of MediEvil stumbles in the gameplay department, failing to bring life into its resurrected protagonist's rusty old bones.
WellPlayed - Zach Jackson - 7 / 10
This faithful remake of a PlayStation classic is a fun trip down memory lane despite feeling a little dated
Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 6.5 / 10
Ultimately, MediEvil doesn't have much going for it except for nostalgia. Everything about it is unexceptional, and it feels lackluster when compared to similar recent attempts to update PS1 classics. Without a fondness for Sir Dan and his antics, I'd be hard-pressed to say why MediEvil is worth playing. It's a game for fans, but little has been done to make this offering stand out. Perhaps it would've been better if Sir Dan had been left to his peaceful rest, but we can hope for a genuine next-gen MediEvil someday in the future.
