Todo ello sin perder la esencia del original y al mismo tiempo sabiendo sorprender incluso a los más veteranos de Resident Evil 2 clásico.

Más que un homenaje. Así podríamos describir el formidable remake de Resident Evil 2, uno de los primeros grandes videojuegos del 2019. Capcom tenía la difícil tarea de modernizar un título de 1998 y adaptarlo a los nuevos tiempos, sin perder su esencia, y desde luego lo ha conseguido. Gráficamente es un lanzamiento fantástico y una revisión increíble, pero jugablemente encontramos sus mejores virtudes en un ritmo trepidante, una acción adictiva y una estupenda selección de puzles. Óptimo para despertar la nostalgia de los veteranos, y extraordinario para los recién llegados. ¿Podíamos pedir más?

Resident Evil 2 va mucho más allá de ser una puesta al día de un clásico. Su tarea a la hora reinterpretar al original, redefinirlo y removerlo para sorprender a nuevos y veteranos es encomiable. El equilibrio entre exploración, acción y rompecabezas es, además, casi perfecto, como lo es la manera de presentar y rememorar casi todos los momentos míticos del título. Con una ambientación abrumadora, un sinfín de puzles inteligentes -claves y opcionales-, intensas batallas con jefes finales y sus propios momentos imborrables, Capcom ha creado un juego capaz de respetar y homenajear a la entrega original, a la franquicia y al género que popularizó. Donde la tensión y el no saber qué pasará cuando vayamos a un lugar desconocido, o volvamos atrás, están siempre presentes. Hay concesiones, algún momento que no está a la altura y alguna pequeña ausencia, pero nada que impida convertir a Resident Evil 2 en uno de los mejores juegos de su especie. Tal y como lo fue el original en 1998.

Capcom ha hecho un grandísimo trabajo recuperando este clásico. Es una obra tremendamente fiel a la original, hasta tal punto que sus únicos problemas son heredados de ésta. Creemos que se podría haber potenciado un poco más la variedad entre personajes; aunque fueran pequeños detalles como cambiar los puzles, bastante sencillos de por sí, y que pierden todo el interés en la segunda vuelta.
Esto puede dividir un poco las opiniones, en función de si esperabas una puesta al día sólo en el envoltorio o algo más profunda. En cualquier caso, y con unas expectativas u otras, Resident Evil 2 nos parece imprescindible para los amantes de los juegos de terror. Es un título con una jugabilidad excelente, momentos inolvidables y una puesta en escena increíble, y que nos hace soñar con el resurgir del survival horror.
